Bridging the Ocean Divide

This video begins an exploration of cultural perspectives on ocean & dolphin conservation in the US and Japan with a look into history through early Japanese and American art. Our story begins with the event in history that linked the US and Japan forever. Years later, another bridge formed between two small communities – New Bedford, Massachusetts & Mikura Island, Japan – when the sailing ship The Viking grounded & wrecked on the shores of Mikura. The film continues the conservation story into the present day by featuring the dolphin communication research & educational outreach of Dr. Kathleen Dudzinski. Kathleen’s workshops for youth in Japan provide a window to the Japanese culture & their views on the oceans & marine life...
